Hi friends! Welcome to another installment of Happy Hour for Your Home 🥂 So you might have already heard the news but… I was recently on an episode of Ballard Design's How to Decorate podcast! The segment focused on the ways in which designers make a room look finished. You should definitely give the whole thing a listen, but for now we've pulled out a few of our favorite moments to highlight.

Tip #1 - Main Spirit

It's a mood.

Lighting is so important to think about because it effects the whole vibe of a space. While we are always a big proponent of fun flashy chandeliers, make sure you take all types of lighting into account when designing your space. "I think [can lighting] is ok as long as you put it on a dimmer. The ability to create mood lighting is so important!"

Tip #2 - Mixers

Curtain Call.

We've said it once & we'll say it again… invest in great window treatments! They will totally transform & update your space. "I am always pushing drapes on clients. Once I put them in one room, they say, "oh my goodness, I have to have them everywhere." It really does make the biggest difference… the room is so much more comfortable, inviting, and cozy."

Tip #3 - Garnish

Getting Personal.

While we're the one decorating these rooms for the clients, they are the people living in them. I usually try to coach clients on how to add little vignettes of personal items as time goes on. “A room needs to evolve with the family that's living there. It needs to represent who they are…” These personal touches can be changed often, whereas I hope when we design a room the foundation is there and is set.
